St. James Day School

St. James Day School is open and serving children ages 1, 2, 3, and 4 years old, with approximately 60 children currently enrolled. School is in session weekly, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. A loving and creative environment encourages children to flourish and grow to their greatest potential. Core curriculum is rounded out with French, music and art lessons.

Our basic philosophy of education for the preschool child is:

To develop the habit of creative thinking;

To develop within the child a positive self-image;

To develop attitudes of social cooperation and moral responsibility;

To develop a knowledge and appreciation of persons, things, and events in the environment;

To provide a readiness program which utilizes the experiences of the children while building a foundation for future math and reading skills;

To establish and maintain an open relationship with parents.

At St. James Day School we assess each child's developmental level and attempt to meet their individual needs by providing opportunities which will help them reach their optimum level of maturity. During the school day, time is allotted to work with children individually, in small groups and as a large group, which provides varied opportunities for social interaction as well as educational reinforcement. Opportunities are available to see and create art, to hear and produce music, to take part in creative drama and movement exercises, to share the joys of exploring various forms of literature, and to get involved with nature and science as well as pre-kindergarten skills. At St. James we believe that when children are loved, children learn.

On Thursday mornings, our three and four year olds have chapel with the clergy of St. James. In chapel, we sing songs, hear Bible stories and learn prayers. Parents are always encouraged to attend chapel when they can.

Creative outdoor play is an important part of a successful preschool program. Large muscle development is one of the top priorities in a child's growth. Our playground will help make such progress a possibility. This area includes slides, swings, a crawl tunnel, a climbing frame, a playhouse, and a variety of riding toys. We also have a gym to use during inclement weather.

School hours are 8:45 AM to 12:45 PM for one and two year olds and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM for three and four year olds. The public school schedule will be observed in cases of holidays and snow days.

Please contact Director Katie Allen at 864-884-9095 for further information. All children must be the correct age for their class by Sept. 1, 2021.
