The Rev. Deacon Hope Anderson, Curate
Meet Our Curate
Hope Anderson is a transitional deacon from the Diocese of North Carolina and is thrilled to serve as the newest curate at St. James Episcopal Church. She attended Duke Divinity School and was particularly formed through daily prayer and worship with Duke’s Anglican Episcopal House of Studies. At Duke, Hope worked with the pastoral care team of the Everything Happens Initiative, a project committed to storytelling, research, and spiritual formation. Prior to seminary, Hope earned degrees in history and human rights at Southern Methodist University in Texas, where she was raised.
Hope’s call to ordained ministry has been shaped by faith communities across the country. She became a follower of Jesus through an Episcopal mission congregation in Dallas and was sponsored for ordination by St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, a congregation with a deep history of fighting environmental racism in Southeast Raleigh. She has also been formed by Friendship House, an intentional community where young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live together with divinity students. Friendship House’s rhythms of prayer and shared meals have shaped Hope’s commitment to a ministry of presence.
In her free time, Hope enjoys exploring local bookstores, biking around her neighborhood, and making new friends. She is already falling in love with Greenville and is excited for adventures on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.
