The Burial of the Dead

Picture
I am Resurrection and I am Life, says the Lord.
Whoever has faith in me shall have life,
even though he die.
And everyone who has life,
and has committed himself to me in faith,
shall not die for ever.
Book of Common Prayer, p. 491.

The death of a member of the Church should be reported as soon as possible to, and arrangements for the funeral should be made in consultation with, the Minister of the Congregation.

Baptized Christians are properly buried from the church. The service should be held at a time when the congregation has opportunity to be present.

The burial rite is a resurrection service, full of hope and confidence in the promise of eternal life given to us at baptism. It is therefore a service marked by grief and joy, but always proclaiming Christ as having destroyed the power of death forever.

It is a blessing for the family when the preferences for the burial service are discussed in advance. To this end, please click on the links below to download pre-planning forms that can be completed and returned to the office.
