One body in Christ
St. James Commitment Campaign 2021
For as in one body we have many members, and not all the members have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another.

Dear People of St. James,
First, let me say that I have missed you--at church, at coffee hour, at meetings, and at fellowship. The life of the church has always been an important part of my life. Nothing could have prepared us for the abrupt changes in 2020. In many aspects, our lives are now planned one day at a time, and those plans are subject to change.
That being said, the body that is St. James has firmly remained part of the Body of Christ, and I pray that it always will. Worship and prayers have never ceased. Our prayer lists continue to include everyone who is special to someone at St. James. Father Stephen and other gifted voices have preached the Gospel every week, whether live-streamed or in the lives they live. The hungry and homeless have received meals from our kitchens, now in to-go bags, but food just the same. God’s work continues to be in our hands, even while we are apart from each other. Therefore, our call to be “one body” has never been more important.
The purpose of this letter is to invite you to pledge your gifts to the body of St. James so that we may serve God and each other in this world. Many of our annual expenses remain the same: our staff salaries, our utilities, our building maintenance, and our mission and outreach. In January of 2020, the Finance Committee will finalize a budget based on the income expected from pledges for 2021.
You may find yourself in a situation of financial uncertainty or anxiety. If that is the case, do not fear making a pledge. Any pledge at any level is appreciated as a contribution to the body as a whole. St. James has been and will continue to be blessed by plate offerings, memorials, and bequests. However, our planned expenses for 2021 will depend on anticipated income from every potential pledging member or family.
St. James has been my family’s church home since 1994. We have participated in baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals. We have made life-long friends at oyster roasts, FEAST groups, and Parish Fellowship Weekends. No matter what 2020 brings, it can’t take that away. The life of the church is the rhythm of our lives.
In closing, I invite you to live your lives in 2021 one day at a time, in service to God and humankind, and in communion with the people who are the body of St. James, doing God’s work in the world.
Sincerely,
Alice Littlejohn
