CARING COMPANIONS
As we come to better understand the COVID-19 virus sweeping our community and our nation, it is clear that there are certain populations which are at much higher risk of serious complications from the virus. Those of advanced age, those with compromised immune systems, and those with underlying health conditions are the most at risk.
As we have all been instructed to maintain social distance and, if possible, to limit public activity, many of these at-risk individuals will find life increasingly difficult. What were once simple tasks such as grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions could be potentially life-threatening. In addition, some of these individuals live alone.
The Caring Companions program seeks to protect and support those in a higher-risk category by pairing them with someone of a lower-risk category to serve as their companion. The role of a companion is to call and check-in with their charge regularly and make occasional trips to the grocery store or pharmacy for them, should the need arise.
If you are in a higher-risk category and would like a companion or if you are in a lower-risk category and would like to serve as a companion to one at risk, please complete the form below. The St. James staff is coordinating this effort and will contact you once you have been assigned.
