Entry Into Jerusalem

In loving memory of Lewis Wardlaw and Adelaide Moorman Simkins
With this window our series enters the last climactic weeks of our Lord's ministry. The figure of Jesus, cloaked in red (symbolic both of victory and sacrifice), is framed by an archway leading into the Holy City. In the left background we glimpse the Temple Mount.
The scene is based on the text of Mark 11:7-8: And they brought the colt to Jesus . . . and he sat upon it. And many spread their garments on the road, and others spread leafy branches which they had cut from the fields.
Three figures crowded closely in upon Jesus represent the multitude which accompanied him on his journey. The kneeling woman in the foreground wears yellow, the color of deceit, a reminder of the short-lived loyalty of the applauding crowd.
