Roxanne Ruggles

The Rev. Roxanne Ruggles, Priest-in-Charge, joined the staff of St. James in March, 2010.

Mother Roxanne was raised in rural southern Ohio. She attended Ohio University, Athens, OH before transferring to Asbury College, Wilmore, KY where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Bible. She continued her education at Asbury Theological Seminary, earning of Master of Arts in Religion degree with a major in Christian Education and a minor in Church Music. For the next 25 years, she held lay positions at a variety of churches in Lexington, KY including Parish Administrator at St. Michael's Episcopal Church and Minister to Newcomers at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.

Karen Eshelman

Music Director and Organist Karen Eshelman first joined the staff of St. James as organist in September, 1988. She currently directs the youth and adult choirs and plays the church’s new pipe organ, built by Halbert Gober in 2007. Prior to coming to St. James Karen served as Organist/Choirmaster at churches in Rochester, NY; Minneapolis, MN; and Tryon, NC.

Originally from Portland, Oregon, Karen began her organ studies with John Strege at Trinity Episcopal Church (now Cathedral), as part of her undergraduate music degree at Portland State University. During this time, Dr. Strege appointed her to an assistant organist/choirmaster position at Trinity. Karen’s college studies included, as a second major area, piano study with award-winning Czech-American composer Tomas Svoboda. She then continued her studies at the Eastman School of Music, where she was a member of the class of master teacher Russell Saunders. She received her masters and doctoral degrees in organ from Eastman, and was also selected to be a recipient of the Performer’s Certificate, a special award for outstanding recitalists. More recently, Karen has attended classes in vocal production through the McCloskey Institute of Voice.

Dena Veazey

Dena Veazey moved to Greenville in June of 1999 and became Administrative Assistant at St. James the next month. Her title was changed to Parish Administrator in January, 2009.

Before coming to St. James Dena worked as Church Secretary at First Presbyterian Church, Harrisonburg, VA. From 1992-1998 she worked for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention; during her mission service she lived in San José, Costa Rica, and the cities of Armenia and Bogota in Colombia, South America.
